Guest Post From Rachel Hauck
Hey! What an honor to be here. I love book tours and the sacrifice the blog owners give for us authors.
Today we’re celebrating the anthology, A Season To Wed, in which I share space with the lovely Cindy Kirk and Cheryl Wyatt!
My novella, A Brush With Love, is about a hair stylist with a superpower to make other women beautiful but not herself and a broken-but-healing hero who convinces her of the truth.
When I signed up to do this story, I was excited. I’m a closet hair dresser. Not that I’m any good at it. Please, don’t hand me scissors and your hair! Bad things will happen. But the art of hair cutting has always fascinated me.
Meanwhile, I was on deadline with another book, How To Catch A Prince, and hit a snag. A physical issue knocked me back a few steps and my deadline for the royal wedding book was in jeopardy.
But if that book slipped, then the novella slipped and that was not possible! My spring schedule was jammed packed and the more my physical issue intensified, the more impossible it all seemed.
I spent a lot of time crying out to God for help, grace and peace.
One evening I came down from writing, tired and out of sorts, to fix dinner. I whispered to the Lord, “I need an idea for this novella.”
In an instant, I knew her name was Ginger and that she didn’t believe she was beautiful. The hero popped up as a wounded but returning hometown man named Tom who would convince Ginger otherwise.
I grabbed a note pad and started taking notes, spreading them across my kitchen island.
In the spring, I wrote the book in four weeks and turned it in on time. One reader blog named A Brush With Love their number one novella for 2015.
How good is God! For me, I didn’t care so much about reviews, fame or acclaim, I just wanted to honor my deadline and agreement with my publisher.
In the midst of sleepless nights, of body tremors, and drained emotions, the Lord met me. It’s not always easy going through the “dark night,” but it’s there our faith is strengthened, our testimony is deepened.
Ginger had to face her own pain, scared by a fire when she was 12, and see herself as God saw her. She had to believe Tom, a popular jock from her past, looked past the wrinkled, puckered skin into her heart.
Sometimes our eyes deceive us. We see fat when the rest of the world sees thin. Or more likely, “just right.”
We see ugly when the rest of the world sees beauty.
Romans 12:1-2 says we are transformed by renewing our minds. Transformed! How fabulous. And all we have to do is change/renew our minds.
I hope you’ll pick up A Season To Wed and read about women who were transformed by renewing their minds and letting love in.
Blessings!
Rachel

Sometimes the road to happiness is paved with youthful mistakes.
Ten years after what she thought was her almost-wedding, Hope Prentiss discovers that the ceremony counted—and, as fate would have it, the jilted John Burke has just ridden back into town. After spending some time with John and helping plan a Christmas wedding for a mystery couple, Hope begins to wonder if she really wants a divorce . . . or a real wedding of her own.
A Brush with Love by Rachel Hauck
Revealing the beauty in other women might be Ginger Winters’s specialty—but it will take an unexpected kind of love to help Ginger see the beauty in herself.
Ginger Winters will be the “beauty-maker” for the Alabama society wedding of the decade. But when high-school crush Tom Wells shows up looking for a haircut, Ginger’s thinly veiled insecurities threaten to keep her from love once again . . . despite Tom’s best efforts.
Serving Up a Sweetheart by Cheryl Wyatt
Meadow knows how to serve delicious food to match any wedding theme. But can she accept love when it’s served up on a silver platter?
Meadow Larson is having the mother of all Mondays when her roof caves in during a blizzard, right before the most important wedding contract of her career. Renovation contractor Colin McGrath offers to fix Meadow’s roof, even though he knows he is the last person she would accept help from.
But the more Meadow gets to know the new Colin, the more she realizes God may have something more permanent in store than a new catering kitchen.
