Do you have any habits or routines when working on a book?

I have to interview my characters ongoing as if I’m meeting them several times for tea. Where are they from? Family? Likes and dislikes? Life experiences? Tragedies? Past loves? Quirks? Secrets? Favorite foods, places, people, and things? I find this part fun and interesting. Ideas flood into my mind based on my characters’ answers.
Have you based scenes in your book on any of your experiences?
Yes, One day I grabbed my favorite white sweater out of the dryer. I threw it over my chair at work. Got cold, and pushed one arm through. Oh, it felt so good. Pushed the other arm through, and my arm stopped, so I pushed as hard as I could through the sleeve. Big mistake. My panties went flying through the air and landed in front of the man coming through my office door! Embarrasing to say the least. I used that scene to show how Becca felt standing in front of friends and family when David jilted her.

Do you want quiet or background noise when you write?

I have to have quiet. I find music and television distracting. I wish I could watch television and write! I have crazy hair days once in a while. I wake up, go straight to my computer and stay there all day (minus the needed breaks). LOL My husband peeks in and checks on me. He’s so supportive and encouraging – and he doesn’t complain. I don’t do this often. Most of the time I stick to my schedule of writing each day.
Do you travel much for research?
I have traveled to Holmes County Amish towns (Middlebury, Berlin, Mt. Hope, Charm and Sugarcreek) several times throughout my life. I went to Shipshewana, Indiana for the first time last year. I will continue to go back. I learn and enjoy the trips. The people are wonderful to talk too. I also went to Pineridge in Florida this year. I love it! I’ll go back there too! The stores have handmade quilts, potholders, and many items made by the Amish. They are beautiful. They have places giving exhibits and history facts about their start and how they’ve continued to maintain their lifestyle through the years. There are farms open to the public for tours and the talks are very informative.

About how long does it take to complete a book?

For a full length book (85,000 – 90,000 words) – eight months. You think of the idea, create a timeline, and map out in detail the character, and story. After the book is complete, I edit it several times for content, flow, grammar, punctuation, redundancy, action and more.
Who are some of my favorite authors?
I have so many! I enjoy romance and mysteries. I’m always trying new authors. Rebecca Waters wrote Breathing on Her Own, and I love the story. Janet Oke is another favorite. Both of them write stories that grab your heart and have you turning the pages well into the night until you’re on the last page of the book!

To celebrate Molly’s joining us today, we are giving away a paperback copy of Grace’s Forgiveness to one luck winner.  Comment below on something interesting interesting you learned from Molly to be entered. This giveaway ends at 11:59 pm PST on Friday, June 10th.

mollypicture.jpgMolly Jebber is an educational, motivational, and Women’s Christian Connection speaker. She was raised in a small town in the Midwest, and insists if you had blinked twice, you would’ve missed it. She loves God, her family and friends, sunshine, swimming and traveling to the Amish communities.  Creating historical Amish characters and throwing them into difficult situations and joyous times has been challenging and fun for her. The greatest reward she’s experienced in becoming an author is meeting wonderful people from all over the world who’ve been encouraging and supportive.

  • I enjoyed visiting with you and Molly this morning over coffee this morning. Thank you for sharing. Something interesting I learned about Molly is that she wants quiet when she writes. Along, with bad hair day where she’ll write all day. God bless you both. Hugs

    • Love you, Marilyn Ridgeway! Had two of those crazy hairs days just recently to write a new novella! Hugs to you!

  • Ellen Dix Wycuff

I love learning the Amish Tidbits she post! I live close to Berne Indiana A’s wasn’t too drive over that way to see the Amish and visit the furniture store with Amish made furniture.

  • Becky Smith

Your embarrassing moments story was funny. I often have Bounce sheets come out of my clothes, but never anything too embarrassing. I was surprised with all of your traveling!

    • The towns are fun to visit, and you can spend a weekend and get a lot of information. My panties most embarrassing moment is seared into my memory bank forever! LOL At least I can laugh about it now.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by today!

Interesting interview. The Amish community is unique.

    • Love you, DJ. You are a dear friend and I miss you! Thank you for commenting today!

I enjoyed the coffee chat with Molly! Found it quite delightful and interesting how she has several interviews with the characters in her books to get to know them. Looking forward to reading her story about Forgiveness. Thanks for sharing today

  • Fun to hear how Molly gets to know her characters! I love the idea of Coffeetime, Sandy! Thanks for sharing Molly with us today! 🙂 BLESSINGS

    • Thank you Caryl. I’ve enjoyed following you on Facebook, and I love your inspirational thoughts and verses. Thank you for joining me here today.

    • Thank you, Karen! I really appreciate it. Thanks for joining me here today!

  • I could just see your embarrassment and his when the panties went flying. LOL I love the idea of interviewing your characters during a tea party. Great imagination. Does your hubby go with you when you travel for research?

    • Oh Jan, the panties incident will never leave my most embarrassing moments list! It was awful, but a good laugh now.
My husband does go with me to do research. He talks to the Amish and Mennonite men, and that has helped a lot. He plans the trip with the hotel and historical sites for the towns we visit. He is my best supporter and encourager. He doesn’t complain when I write all day and forget dinner! I need to work on that. LOL
Thank you for stopping by today.

  • Deanna Stevens

Stopping in for evening coffee 😉 Would love to read more of your books!

    • Hi Deanna,

I interview my characters too. My worst problem in writing is not being able to concentrate when I’m forming the outline, the reasons stopping the hero and heroine from getting what they want, and how I can make their problem worse. I went to play a game and have pizza with a large group of people. The game was so simple, but I couldn’t concentrate and felt so foolish. I was coming up with all kinds of ideas in my head, and my characters would stop talking! Thank you for stopping by today!

  • Thank you, Ann. I’m so glad you stopped by here today. I appreciate your kind words about Change of Heart. So good to connect with you.

  • Deanne Patterson

One interesting thing I saw in the interview was the word interesting was listed twice in a row. I see Molly enjoys trying new authors, me too! Janet Oke is one of my favorite authors too! Such beautiful covers on Molly’s books. I haven’t read any of her books yet but I love the peaceful feeling I get reading Amish books and I look forward to reading hers. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity!

  • Hi Deanne!

Thank you for stopping by today! I’m happy to hear you like reading about the Amish. I enjoy writing stories about them. Yes, Janet Oke is at the top of my list.

  • Molly, Tell Mr. Wonderful hi from me. I’ll be looking forward to your return to Florida, but not too soon – it’s hot and rainy down here.

  • Congrats, Molly, on your books! When we lived in Wyoming, a friend’s husband taught a class at a junior college there. Halfway through class, one of the students pointed out that Mike had a panty hose foot sticking out of the collar of his shirt! Needless to say, Mike was a little red-faced as he pulled it the rest of the way out and tried to move on with class. I’ve enjoyed drinking my coffee with you today!

    • Lynn,

I miss seeing you at SWFRW Group! I’ve been following all your good news! Congratulations. Loved your pantyhose story. Reminds me to be careful when taking out Ed’s clothes! Thank you for stopping by!

  • Lucy Reynolds

I love reading new authors also and am also a fan of Janette Oke. Thank you for the chance. God bless!
