This cool fallish morning, I am having coffee with Keely Brooke Keith to learn more about her and her books.  Pull up a chair, have a cup and visit with us!

aboard-providence-coverWill you tell us about your books?
My Uncharted series, which begins with The Land Uncharted, is romantic frontier fiction with a slight sci-fi twist. My upcoming release, Aboard Providence, is a historical spin-off of the Uncharted series.

Are you a plotter or a panster?

I’m a plotter-pantster blend. I sketch the concepts for major plot points and any scene ideas before the first draft. But when I start writing, the story takes on a life of its own. It rarely looks anything like I first imagined.

Do you like to listen to music while you write?

Not while I’m actually typing, but I love to put on music and dream up my stories while I do housework.

kbk-writingIf you could live in any time period, what would it be?

The new earth in Eternity.

What is your favorite food?

Frosted Mini Wheats with vanilla rice milk. Mmm.

Do you like to travel?

Oh, yeah.

Do you travel for research for your books?

Not specifically as my books are set in an imaginary land, but I do look for inspiration while I travel.

Why did you decide to become a writer?

I’m not sure I “decided”. I started writing stories in blank notebooks when I was old enough to write and have never stopped. I mostly wrote short stories and poems. Once my daughter was old enough to give me space during the day, I started writing novels.

What are your hobbies?

I crochet, collect antique textbooks, and love to discover small towns on weekend trips.

Do you like to cook? Would you share with us a favorite recipe?

I cook for my family, but it’s on the same level as laundry. I don’t love it or hate it, and it probably all tastes the same. Ha!

If you could pick any genre to write in besides your current genre, what would it be?

I blend genres, so that keeps me happy.

What is your favorite verse? Why does it encourage or comfort you?

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Cor. 5:17. It’s such a blessing to know that IN CHRIST I am not bound to the world or my past or my fleshly nature. I can be who He says I am and live how He says to live in Him.

Our thanks to Keely for spending time with us this morning. In honor of our coffee chat, Keely is giving away her ENTIRE Uncharted series! To enter the giveaway, comment below answering the question, “What was your favorite part of this interview?” This giveaway will end Monday, September 19 at 11:59 pm PDT.

We will see you all next Friday for our next coffee chat!

  • Lovely chat. I could relate to the laundry-cooking line, the music, crochet, antique textbooks and finding small towns. You books sound intriguing with that sci-fi touch.

  • Hi Keely! Best answer ever: new earth for eternity!!! < favorite part of the interview! 😉 Amen sister! I just snatched books 1-3 from the Kindle Owner's Lending Library, yay!

    • You are right Beth, that was the best answer! I so look forward to that, too.

  • Hey Keely,

I love what you said about how you are a mixture of a plotter and panster because I can relate. I think the best writing is done when it’s natural and the characters and plot take on it’s own life.

I can’t wait to read your books!

    • Yep, natural is the key. Thanks, Christina!

  • Brenda Murphree

Well I like the part where she answered she would want to live in “The New Earth”. I never thought about answering that question like that even tho I often think what it will be like when we get to our eternal home. I have one of these books but would love to have them all. Thanks for the opportunity to win these books.

    • Won’t it be wonderful to be in our eternal home with Christ! Thanks, Brenda!

  • Megan Wilson

My favorite part was the question ‘Are you a plotter or pantser?’ – why? because my answer is very similar to hers! 😀 Fun interview to read! Thanks for the chance to win.

  • Connie Scruggs

I really loved the answer to the time period she would like to live in. I’ve always thought about past eras when considering that. I never thought about answering with the eternal future.
I am also a crocheter, so that was also interesting to me.

    • Thanks, Connie! It’s nice to meet fellow crocheters.

  • My favorite is time era of eternity in Heaven. I also liked the part plotter-panster. Thank you for the giveaway.

  • JEANETTE RAYMOND

Loved this “not bound to the world or my past or my fleshly nature. I can be who He says I am and live how He says to live in Him.” This is what it’s all about! This is why we live breath and write. Good interview Keely!

  • Connie Saunders

I enjoyed this interview with Neely and I always like to see what Bible verse is special to the different authors. Thanks for sharing!
